Kara and Tim chose exactly that for their early June wedding at The Estate Washington, a European-inspired wedding venue just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. With only their parents and grandparents there to witness it, their wedding felt less like an event being performed and more like a quiet afternoon spent celebrating the beginning of their marriage. And The Estate Washington could not have been a more beautiful setting for it.

After their first look, Kara and Tim moved into the estate’s dining room to privately read the vows they had written earlier that afternoon.The richness of the room—the architecture, light, texture, and European influence—gave the photographs an almost cinematic quality, but what made this part of their day so memorable was its intimacy. They had space to actually listen to one another.

After their ceremony and family photographs, the rest of the afternoon belonged to Kara and Tim. We wandered through Estate Washington together, moving between its interiors and grounds. This slower approach is one of my favorite ways to photograph a wedding.Some images were intentionally composed. Others happened in the seconds between them—a glance, movement through a doorway.
I photographed their wedding on both digital and film, allowing the two mediums to tell different pieces of the same story. Film brings an unpredictability and softness I love. There is no immediate gratification and no perfecting the image afterward. You take the photograph, trust the moment, and wait. Digital allows me to respond quickly as a story changes in front of me.
Together, they create a wedding gallery that feels layered, tactile, and alive.
